Richard Mallett, of Malletts Solictors today released the following statement on behalf of Gloucester and England rugby star Lesley Vainikolo
Mr Mallett, who last year got England team-mate Olly Barkley acquitted of assault, said: "Lesley Vainikolo today had the case against him of causing grievous bodily harm dropped at Bristol Crown Court after the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence."
"I am delighted that the case against Mr Vainikolo has been dropped. The
way in which he has conducted himself throughout these proceedings and
the support that he has had is a credit to him both as a person and as a player."
"Mr Vainikolo has vigorously protested his innocence since the allegations
were made last October."
"He will now concentrate all of his efforts on playing for England once more and hopes to be involved at some point in the upcoming Six Nations."
Mr Vainikolo said: "I’m free. I’d like to thank God for this day and this great news. The last year has been hell and I am lucky that my family and friends throughout the world have supported me.
I look forward to now concentrating on what I do best, playing for Gloucester and forcing my way back into the England team."
